Fashion history Project
The fashion history project is an assessment that my students undergo extensive research over a decade in the past. In their research, students find trends, popular colors, textiles, and accessories that were prominently worn in a specific decade. For example, bell bottoms in the 1970s. In addition to the fashion research, they also collect evidence of historical events that occurred, as well as movies and music that were popular during the time. Students use their school administered iPads to collect research on Google Docs and Google Drive. Once research has been completed, students create design board displaying the main ideas of their research. After the board is complete, students give a professional presentation to the class about the research and the main ideas of their fashion decade. I have three main standards that I assess, which are as follows:
8.3 Analyze the technical knowledge and skills related to be successful in Family and Consumer Sciences related careers.
6.1 Analyze needs met through apparel decisions.
8.4 Demonstrate safety practices and techniques related to practicing foundational occupational skills in community and laboratory settings.
